Dave Meyer

May 5, 2025 | Volunteer Spotlights

From the competition circuit to the heart of disaster zones, Dave Meyer has been part of the OBR family since 2019.

“I’ve always volunteered, but when I discovered Operation BBQ Relief while competing in BBQ events, something clicked,” Dave said. “Feeding ‘The One Hot Meal That Matters’ during disasters felt like the perfect fit.”

That first deployment after a tornado in Dayton, Ohio sealed the deal.

“Seeing how a hot meal lifted the spirits of rescue workers and survivors—I knew I had found my volunteer home,” Dave said.

What keeps Dave coming back? The impact and the people.

“If you’ve thought about volunteering with OBR but haven’t yet—don’t wait,” Dave said. “You’ll work hard. You might get rained on. But at the end of the day or deployment, you’ll be filled with compassion, love for your fellow human beings, and friendships you’ve never thought possible.”
