Healing happens in many ways. Sometimes it’s found in the smoke of a barbecue pit; other times, it’s found in the silence of a memorial.
On April 29-May 3, 2026, Camp OBR hosted a group of young adults from Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). These survivors have all endured the unimaginable loss of a loved one in the military. Our goal was simple: provide a sanctuary where they could connect, exhale, and just be.
Under the guidance of world-class pitmasters John David Wheeler and John Railey, they didn’t just learn to cook – they experienced Culinary Therapy and learned the power of community. Between ATV rides, axe throwing, archery, and afternoons on the water, new friendships took root.
The week culminated at our memorial gazebo. As they hung dog tags in honor of their fallen heroes, the message was clear: You are not alone, and your loved ones are not forgotten.
