Camp OBR™ extends the mission of Operation BBQ Relief beyond disaster zones, showing what the healing power of BBQ looks like. Nestled on 192 acres at Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks, it’s a retreat for military, veterans, first responders, and Gold Star families to recharge, reconnect, and heal. Through culinary therapy, outdoor adventures, and moments of reflection, Camp OBR™ offers hope, strength, and lasting memories for heroes and their loved ones.
What We Do
At Camp OBR™, food is more than fuel — it’s therapy on a plate. Guided by expert chefs and world-champion pitmasters, heroes and their families roll up their sleeves, chop, stir, and season together. Along the way, they find connection, laughter, and healing in the simple act of sharing a meal.
Culinary therapy is at the heart of Camp OBR™. Guided by expert chefs and pitmasters, heroes and their families cook side by side — chopping, stirring, and sharing stories along the way. The kitchen becomes a place of healing, where full plates turn into connection, comfort, and memories that last long after camp ends.
Nature has its own way of healing, and across 192 acres at Camp OBR™ it surrounds heroes and families at every turn. Winding trails for hiking and ATV rides, quiet mornings with a fishing pole, the stillness of archery, the challenge of skeet shooting, and sunsets over the lake from a pontoon boat — each moment outdoors is an invitation to slow down, breathe deep, and reconnect. And when the day winds down, nights around the fire pit bring laughter, reflection, and the comfort of being together.
Healing takes many forms at Camp OBR™. Through guided discussions, peer support, and quiet spaces for reflection, heroes and families find tools to strengthen their emotional and mental health. Camp creates an environment where it’s safe to share, connect, and begin building resilience for the road ahead.
Every Camp OBR™ ends with a moment of honor and remembrance. Throughout the week, each hero or family member creates a dog tag for their loved one. On the final night, we gather together as those tags are hung in a quiet ceremony — a powerful tradition that turns grief into remembrance, and reminds every attendee they are not alone.
