From the Heart
June 2022
Message from the Co-Founders
We hope you and your families are having a great summer. Operation BBQ Relief continues to participate in several events from coast to coast. These events are a great opportunity to practice our deployment procedures while also raising awareness for our mission and recruiting new volunteers. We have several upcoming events planned this summer and hope you are able to volunteer or say “hi” if you happen to be at one of these events.
We are excited to announce that numerous celebrity chefs and sports figures have joined forces for our second cookbook Grilling with Golic and Hays – An Operation BBQ Relief Cookbook. We encourage you to purchase the book and share with family and friends.
We are grateful for the generous support from volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who continue to fuel our mission.
Much respect,
Stan Hays, CEO
Will Cleaver, CPO and Head of Finance

The Always Serving Project®
“It was awesome to watch our volunteers connect, inspire, serve, and educate Manchester Tank employees and local first responders in Crossville, TN. Operation BBQ Relief volunteers had the opportunity to see how propane tanks are made and Manchester employees had the opportunity to learn how the tanks they made served a higher purpose. Many of the Manchester employees were so inspired that they are now Operation BBQ Relief registered volunteers. Thank you Manchester Tank.”

How did you get involved with Operation BBQ Relief?
During Superstorm I was assigned to Brick, NJ as a police officer. This is when I first heard of Operation BBQ Relief and thought it was a great organization since I was already involved in competition BBQ. Soon after that, I became involved with Operation BBQ Relief as a volunteer. I even recruited members of my BBQ team and club to become involved. I like to say I’ve been on both sides of the table in relation to Operation BBQ Relief, receiving and serving.
Favorite Operation BBQ Relief moment:
I really don’t have a specific Operation BBQ Relief moment that is my favorite. I enjoy them all. I love being able to help people that are in need.
Volunteer App Update
The Operation BBQ Relief Volunteer App and the volunteer website login process is getting an update. We are implementing new methods to login to the App using social login which is a form of single sign-on using existing information from social networking services such as Facebook, Microsoft, LinkedIn, and Google to sign into our website and app instead of creating a new login account specifically for Operation BBQ Relief. It is designed to simplify logins for end users as you will not need to remember a password for the Operation BBQ Relief Volunteer app. It will also provide additional security for end users data. If you have an account with any of these companies, you can use any of them to login to the Operation BBQ Relief Volunteer App and website. If you have an existing user account profile, you will need to make certain that your email address within the Operation BBQ Relief App matches the email address in your social login. If it does not match, it will see you as a new user and will take you to the new user registration process.
We hope you like the new updates that we are rolling out to the Operation BBQ Relief Volunteer app. You can click on the links below to get the latest versions of the App.
REMEMBER, in order to use social login your email address in your existing Operation BBQ Relief Volunteer App profile must match the email address associated with Facebook, Microsoft, LinkedIn, or Google.
Operation BBQ Relief Volunteer Handbook
If you have a question about volunteer participation, what to expect when you sign up to support a specific deployment, the expectations Operation BBQ Relief has of our volunteers, or even questions about diversity, inclusion, ethics, or security, please take a minute to download the latest copy of The Operation BBQ Relief Volunteer Handbook from our website and bookmark this link. The majority of your questions are already answered there. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for in the handbook or need more information, you can always reach the Volunteer Services team via email at volunteer@obr.org.
