FROM THE CO-FOUNDERS

Wishing You and Your Family a Safe and Happy New Year!

Ten years ago OBR was not even a thought! Now we are one of the largest and fastest growing BBQ-related non-profits in the US! We have done more together than we ever dreamt we would in this decade! Here is to the great things to come in the next decade!

Always Serving Project

After a successful inaugural year in 2019, the Always Serving Project is looking forward to growth and expansion in 2020. The Breaking Bread Tour will begin in Key West in late April, feeding the military, first responders, and communities in need in 10 cities along the way as it heads north to the US-Canada border in Maine. BBQ Basics, our year-round program, will connect, inspire, serve, educate, and feed those in need will begin this month.

We are excited to once again have the opportunity to take part in special events including the Super Bowl and Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival in February and the Stagecoach Music Festival in April. Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to hear about all of our activities.

Volunteer Spotlight

Cheryl Baylie first got involved with Operation BBQ Relief in Rowlett, Texas. We quickly identified her multiple skillsets and she ran inventory control for the deployment. Her attention to details and hard work set the standard on how the inventory is controlled today.

She spent a year on the Marketing Team providing project management guidance. The last few years she has had significant impact on the volunteer team. Her attention to detail and relentless desire to work with clean data motivated her to clean and merge years of collected volunteer registrations. In essence, this allowed Operation BBQ Relief to move forward with the registration process in the app.

When given a project, Cheryl sees it through to completion. The signing-in process, tier program, and more recently developing and leading the virtual volunteers team are examples of the significant contributions she makes. Cheryl has deployed to a number of events and disasters, most recently the Army Navy Event. She always makes an impact in a surprising and positive way. Operation BBQ Relief is very fortunate to have Cheryl in our midst.

Ways to Help

Team OBR has accomplished a lot since our inception. In the last seven years, we have grown from a startup organization to being one of the largest providers of hot meals during disasters. Our BBQ background prepares us to be really great problem solvers and so much of disaster relief is solving big problems to help others. One problem that we are trying to solve is the peaks and valleys of funding between deployments as the ongoing expenses do not go away when we are not deployed. A few of these expenses are vehicle and trailer maintenance, warehouse space, storage, and insurance.

We are asking for your help in 2020 toward a monthly giving campaign. This campaign allows our supporters to budget their monthly contributions throughout the year and allows OBR to better manage our ongoing expenses. Our 2020 annual goal is to add 1,000 new monthly supporters during the year. Thank you for being part of Operation BBQ Relief and helping us help others. If you wish to sign up for a monthly giving program, go to https://volunteers.operationbbqrelief.org/donations/donate-now or click below to enroll.
