Spencer, Iowa (Flooding) / 10,750 Meals Over 7 Days

Jun 24, 2024 | Deployments

After record flooding in Iowa damaged roads and bridges, shuttered or destroyed homes and businesses, required hospitals and nursing homes to evacuate, and left millions without power or safe drinking water, Operation BBQ Relief arrived on June 24 to provide the “One Hot Meal That Matters.” It was a privilege to serve 10,750 meals to the wonderful people of Spencer over the next 7 days.

A heartfelt thank you to Hy-Vee for graciously hosting us at their location. Special recognition goes to Tara Wright of Juggs BBQ, our dedicated Area Coordinator for Iowa, who swiftly responded and provided her food truck to help distribute meals. We also extend our gratitude to Jake Hesse of Dad Bod Barbeque for lending his smoker, which doubled our meal-making capacity.

We are deeply grateful for the hard work, sacrifices, and contributions of our volunteers, sponsors, community partners, donors, and staff. Their swift action ensured that we could provide the Healing Power of BBQ to the residents, first responders, and relief workers of Spencer during this challenging time.
