In March, 2017, an EF2 tornado with winds up to 132 miles per hour damaged or destroyed approximately 70 homes in Smithville. The local airport was also damaged by extremely strong winds that were a part of this storm. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported. Operation BBQ Relief deployed to share the healing power of BBQ to victims and volunteers.
