Rocky Mount, North Carolina (Tornado) / 400 Meals Over 11 Days

Jul 27, 2023 | Deployments

Operation BBQ Relief was founded in May 2011, when competitive pitmasters from nine different states answered the call to feed displaced families and first responders after a tornado struck Joplin, Missouri. Twelve years later we reached our 100th deployment milestone while serving Rocky Mount, North Carolina after an EF3 tornado ripped through the area on July 19, 2023 destroying more than 100 homes.

Operation BBQ Relief was proud to support the Saint Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church congregation, who organized “Operation Hope”, an event that took place over the course of two weekends to supply Rocky Mount-area tornado survivors with hot meals, food boxes, flats of water, and debris clean-up supplies. Operation BBQ Relief volunteers provided 400 meals to individuals impacted by the tornado through the event.
