An EF4 tornado cut through north-central Illinois on the evening of April 9, 2015 and devastated the town of Fairdale. The storm resulted in two fatalities, numerous injuries, and significant damage to both commercial and residential buildings along its over 30 mile path. Operation BBQ Relief volunteers set up basecamp behind the Kirkland Fire Department to feed impacted residents, first responders, and other volunteers on-site. Additionally, they delivered 550 hot BBQ meals to Fairdale residents who returned to the remains of their homes.
