Cedar Rapids, Iowa (Derecho) / 70,360 Meals Over 10 Days

Aug 14, 2020 | Deployments

On August 10, 2020, a derecho devastated communities in Iowa. This violent thunderstorm complex had winds over 100 miles per hour and caused 4 billion dollars’ worth of damages, including damage to 40% of the state’s soybean and corn crops that lay at the core of the local economy. Cedar Rapids, where over 800 buildings sustained structural damage, was among the hardest-hit areas. Operation BBQ Relief served their 8,000,000th meal during this deployment!
