From the Heart

December 2021

Message from the Co-Founders

Operation BBQ Relief continues to share the one hot meal that matters with families and first responders affected by the catastrophic tornado in Mayfield, KY and the surrounding communites. Many families have lost everything right before Christmas. We are bringing holiday cheer to families that have been affected by the tornadoes. Our staff and volunteers are providing 14,000 pre-made meals to the community to pick up to serve for the holidays. We will also be teaming up with Santa to serve 3000 meals on Christmas Day to the community.

We received the note of gratitude below that is one of the many notes that continue to fuel our mission.

“Thank you so much for coming to our devastated town of Mayfield, KY!

I’m at home recovering from surgery and my wife brought home BBQ plates for our family. The food was absolutely delicious! I just want to thank your organization for doing what it does! With me being down, our town in ruins, you relieved a bit of stress on my wife by taking care of our family’s lunch!

Again, we are so very-very thankful for your love, food, and selfless hearts.

May God bless you all!”

– Sean, Mayfield, KY

We wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season!

Much respect,

Stan Hays, CEO
Will Cleaver, CPO and Head of Finance

Area Coordinator Spotlight

Rolf Oelgeschläger – New York State Area Coordinator

Deployments: Hurricane Sandy, 11/2012, Brighton Beach, NY; Hurricane Florence, 9/2018, Wilmington, NC; Hurricane Laura, 9/2020, Lake Charles, LA; Day of Giving, 12/2020, Montvale, NJ

How did you get involved with Operation BBQ Relief?
I was the Contest Coordinator for the Hudson Valley RibFest for many years. During this time, I built lots of friendships with competition teams from the event. Lots of the teams got involved with Operation BBQ Relief. When Hurricane Sandy hit in October 2012, the call for help went out for volunteers from Operation BBQ Relief and I signed up.

Why volunteer with Operation BBQ Relief?
Volunteering for Operation BBQ Relief gives me the satisfaction of helping others in need and being around great people while doing so. It’s all about serving “The One Hot Meal That Matters.”

Favorite Operation BBQ Relief moment: We were in Lake Charles, LA eating Roller Dogs at the Wilson camp while watching the NFL Kickoff Game. It was a great time to relax after a hot and busy day.
