Washington, Illinois (Tornado) / 25,600 Meals over 6 Days

On November 17th, 2013, multiple tornadoes tore through Illinois causing widespread power outages and structural damage that affected thousands of people. One of the two EF-4 tornadoes ripped directly through Washington, IL.

Our volunteers set up site in Washington on the 19th and were able to send out 1,300 meals that first day, including taking meals directly into Washington;s hardest hit neighborhoods. We ramped up quickly and ultimately served 25,600 meals over 6 days! During this deployment, we also surpassed our first big milestone…in only thirty months since our formation after the Joplin MO tornado, we served our 500,000th meal!
