Kirkland and Fairdale, Illinois (Tornado) / 5,700 Meals over 2 Days

An EF4 “Wedge” tornado (multiple vortex) that was up to 1/2 mile and stayed on the ground for 52 miles touched down in Rochelle, about 75 miles west of Chicago Thursday evening at about 6:45 p.m., and then moved on to Fairdale, 25 miles northeast, just south of Rockford, leaving much damage in its wake.

We would like to say a special thank you to the Kirkland Fire Department (Deputy Chief Stott) 3891 IL-72 Kirkland, IL 60146. They provided our site location, firehouse amenities, and pretty much anything we needed from them without question or fail.  In addition to Chief Stott providing the FD house and site, thanks also to Mary Stott (his wife, who was the Volunteer Coordinator and my chief contact for food needs), as well Howard Manka (Fireman, one of my key contacts, hooked us up with Inbodens for discounted meat, brought us television media attention, and made sure we were taken care of).
