What an amazing few days in Florida as we attended the Governor’s Hurricane Conference. We had a great showing with our volunteer leadership. Our Florida State Leads Joe Burns and Tom Brown were active in making new relationships alongside of Territory Director Mike Richter. Jeremy Bruce, our Head of Technology, lead the group throughout the event.

On the last day of the event, OBR was awarded the prestigious Volunteer Agency Service Award. This award is presented to an individual staff member or volunteer of a non-government organization (NGO) or a NGO that has made an outstanding contribution to the fulfillment of hurricane preparedness, response, recovery or mitigation activities in the State of Florida.

Operation BBQ Relief was named the award winner for our 2018 response to the Hurricane Michael Disaster where we provided mass feeding. We were recognized for being deployed for over 30 days and serving 808,220 meals to disaster victims, first responders, military, and utility workers at no charge. OBR then followed this with another 15,000 meals served, along with Lowe’s, at Thanksgiving.

We are very appreciative of any and all recognition. However, not as much as we are of our volunteers. They are the heart and soul of our organization and none of this would be possible without them.
