WHAT HAPPENED:
Disaster: Tornado
Classification: EF-3
Casualties: One dead and at least five injured. About 20 buildings were destroyed and 200 were damaged.
SUMMARY:
On Saturday evening, May 21, 2011, an EF3 tornado tornado swept through a small eastern Kansas town of about 250 residents, killing one and injuring at least five others. Power was knocked out to much of the town. Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback issued a disaster declaration for 16 counties on Sunday, a step toward getting state and federal aid for the affected areas.
On July 22nd, 2011 Operation BBQ Relief joined forces with Cowboy Up BBQ and the Reading, Kansas Fire Department for a fundraiser for the victims of the May tornado.
